An other day off-road

Photo 002

Before we set off from MATMATA  a visit to the Starwars cave was a must. Our petrol salesman who delivered the petrol at the hotel took us there. It was the old film set converted in a hotel and souvenirs shop. Not much to see, but there was a nice tea salesman.

So we headed for KEBILA. We drove about 50 km of unpaved roads. After 100 km off-road the machinery started to show some faults. I almost lost my headlight, the bolts came undone and I lost one. We were a well prepared team, I had the tools and Mike the spare bolt.

Mike had a rough day in the sand. He had trouble keeping his bike upright. He crashed two times in the sand. He did some amazing pirouettes with his bike in the loose sand.  When I saw that from a distance I thought:”WHOW, what a skills!!!!!” But then I noticed that he was putting his bike back on the wheels. :-)

Me, this was my lucky day. I did not fall off, but came very close several times. We discussed about the DAKAR rally pilots who drive the same tracks at a 160 km/h . They must be suicidal, for us 50 km/h was fine.

In the next link mike reviews his day.

From KEBILA to TOZEUR we drove in a sort of sandstorm, we didn't see much of the salt lake. Tonight it is again a tourist hotel, I wonder why I took my camping gear? But a nice shower after a day on the bike in the  sand is heaven.
