We had a good start Sunday, we left on time. Joelle escorted us for a few kilometres (to make sure that we really left) and we made good progress until halfway Rennes and Nantes.
Suddenly I felt that my bike had no more power and I had to stop. After a quick inspection we noticed that the drive chain was missing. Mike picked up the chain from the road and there was a clear fracture on one of the links.
You should try to breakdown your vehicle on a Sunday in France. Except for a tow truck that parks your bike or car in front of a garage you will not find any other help. Our case, a motorbike, is even more complicated, all the shops are closed on Monday.
So Monday we hired a van to pick up the bike and transport it to Nantes. We found a bike shop open on Monday afternoon and luckily he had an repair chain link that fitted my chain. We repaired the chain, mounted it and at 5 pm we were ready to go. We finished the day at a 100 kilometres from Bordeaux.
Tomorrow we make a stop at the BMW dealership in Bordeaux to get a new drive chain.
We have lost a days drive and getting on time to the ferry in Algeciras (southern Spain) will be a challenge.
