Matmata 1

Photo

We finished our night in SFAX in style. We went to a restaurant called Bagdad. Good food, value for money and nice people.

We had an easy day. This morning we slept late, departure at noon. We took the coastal road  direction GABES. Stopped in SKHIRA for a drink and a chat. Continued our road to GABES and enjoyed the amazing Tunisian traffic. No surprise if an car or scooter is driving on the wrong side of the road, U turns, cars parked on the middle of the road. In SFAX a nice lady opened her window to warn me for poor driving qualities of the SFAXian drivers.

From GABES we went to Matmata in the Dahar mountains, on the way up we stopped to rig up Mikes helmet cam. Without knowing we stopped before a troglodyte house witch was open to visit. Nice family, served us some lovely mint tea. And for fuel storage they had a German Luftwaffe 200 l barrel from WW2 .

We found a small hotel, no internet, no TV. But a swimming pool and a bar.

Tomorrow we are going to try some unpaved roads and maybe go and see the dessert.
